Heavenly promises locked in human DNA
Divinity wrapped in humanity’s cloak
Beating heart, ten toes and ten fingers
All sent to make me whole
***
You, who are a King, became one of us
A tiny child, born into poverty
The offspring of a teenage girl and the Almighty
Brought up by a God-fearing carpenter
***
How did it feel to know the truth?
Half of you achingly human, hungry and thirsty
And half beautifully divine, complete and awesome?
Son of Man and Son of God, Love’s ultimate gift?
***
As you walked our dusty, dirty streets
You did not pull away from the sin
But rather rolled up your sleeves
And said, “Let me make you clean.”
***
The amount of filth did not matter
No injury or illness was too much
For the Healer had come to heal
All you asked for was faith the size of a mustard seed.
***
As you walked up that hill to your death
Did you think of me? Was I on your mind
As you took your last breath?
When you said, “Tetelestai.”
***
“Paid in full.” That’s what you cried.
Your sacrifice of a heavenly King wrapped in human flesh
Accomplished what nothing else could
You bridged the gap between sinners and the Sovereign.
***
The debt has been paid
But the work is not done.
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”
So let us run joyfully into Your vineyard.
***
Let us be your words made flesh
Let the love you taught us heal the brokenhearted
Bind the wounds and offer forgiveness and truth
Because you offered it first.
***
You are our Ransom, our Redeemer
You bought us back from our slavery
Let us now be faithful to you
Our Savior and Friend.
