Author Services

Are you in need of an editor? Proofreader? Book formatter? Are you having trouble with your book blurb? Beta readers ghosting you — or have they gotten lost under their giant TBR piles? I can help! (Well, maybe not with getting your betas out of those book piles…)

I offer editing services to fellow authors! Need more than the details listed on this page? Don’t hesitate to fill out the contact form at the bottom so I can give you more information!

*(I don’t accept stories that include: erotica, gratuitous violence/sex, LGBTQ+, new age, or a heavy focus on horror or witchcraft. Those are not genres I am familiar with and would not be the best choice of editor for you.)

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING:

A developmental edit is all about the Big Picture of your story. Plot, world-building, characters, conflict, and those pesky plot holes—and their little cousins, the plot bunnies—are all dealt with during a developmental edit. Grammar, punctuation, and typos are not the focus of this level of editing.

This is an up close view of the bones and the muscle of your story, and as such, they should be strong enough to endure the test of time (and your reviews from readers!). I’ll work to make sure you are presenting the best story to the world by helping you answer questions a reader would have, discover any weaknesses in the plot or character arcs, and dig deep into the marrow of your tale.

What you’ll get is a detailed edit on the manuscript to assist you in putting the final touches on the story. You’ll also receive an editorial report discussing my findings and coaching you through the next steps.

Rates start at .015/word.

COPY/LINE EDITING:

Here is where I’ll help you fix the “surface” of your story. This is a great place for me to work once you know the bones of your story are strong. Traditionally, you’ll see copy editing and line editing as two separate services. A line edit is a deeper focus on the text at a line-by-line and even word-by-word level. A copy edit has a lighter focus on grammar, punctuation, etc.

With line editing, I watch for repetition, readability, and clarity in your work. A lighter copy editing level is where I catch any leftover issues and strive to help you present a polished manuscript for your next step in your publishing journey.

Rates start at .01/word (includes both a first and second pass).

PROOFREADING:

This is the final step before publication, the final sweep for anything left unpolished. This is where I look at the “proof” of your finished manuscript to be sure there are no remaining typographical and formatting errors. Even if you had your manuscript edited elsewhere, it can be very helpful to have fresh eyes on your finished product to make sure nothing was missed. This is a surface level type of edit and content; major grammatical issues will not be addressed since this should be the last look before publication.

Rates start at .008/word.

BETA READING:

Want an idea of what reader reactions will be like? Here is where a professional beta read can make a major difference for you! I have a list of questions I like to ask my clients before I beta read so you get the best overview possible that is tailored to your specific needs. I offer two levels of beta reading: Lite and Ultra.

Beta Read Lite: I will read through your manuscript, and you will receive a 1-3 page report detailing my reactions to the story, any areas that could be strengthened or cut, an overview of your character arc/development, and suggestions on any areas that you as a writer can focus to make your story stand out from the crowd. (.002/word)

Beta Read Ultra: This is a deeper dive into your work. I’ll add in-line reaction comments in a “stream of consciousness style” to allow you insight to how a reader might perceive your work. I also provide end of chapter thoughts (or end of section if your book does not have chapters) on what worked and what didn’t. For instance, if part of the chapter needs a little more clarification, I’ll specify that directly in that feedback. I also provide a 1-3 page report when I am finished with the book to discuss any suggestions or other updates that I have. (.005/word)

BLURB WRITING:

The dreaded blurb! (Or synopsis, if you’re feeling fancy.) Writing a novel can be easy compared to crafting a good explanation on what your book is about. This is where I can give you that extra set of eyes to help you build a blurb from scratch OR help revise what you already have. Let’s hook those readers!

Rates start at $20 and include 3 different blurb options with one revision of your favorite option.

SAMPLE EDIT:

Want to make sure you’ll like my editing style? Sounds good to me! I offer a sample edit of your first 2,000 words. This will give me an idea of what your writing style looks like and how I can best serve you and your manuscript; it also allows you to know my editing style works for you.

Sample edit is $10. If you choose to move forward, this fee is deducted from your final invoice on any other service you choose!
