Books I Love: Sci-fi/Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic

***I know it’s typically fantasy that gets lumped with sci-fi, but as a reader and writer of both, I actually think I prefer to have them separate…

***As always, I have noted if the books are not Christian/clean.

Brand of Light by Ronie Kendig — A young woman from a technology-free planet is suddenly plucked from her homeworld and pushed into the middle of an interplanetary conflict that she doesn’t understand. It’s the first book in a series (which I have not finished yet).

A Changed World series by Alice Sabo (not Christian, fairly clean) — I love this series! The last book presented a totally different situation from the others. (There are some typos, so be aware if you notice things like that, but they did not keep me from finishing the series.)

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (not Christian, fairly clean) — The first time I read the books, I didn’t really like Katniss. But then I watched the movies and felt like I understood her a little better, so I re-read the books and that time, I LOVED THEM.

Revenger by Alistair Reynolds (not Christian and not super clean, lots of violence) — I borrowed this book from my brother, and boy was it a crazy ride! It’s part Treasure Planet, part Firefly and super-intriguing. It’s stuck with me for a few years now as something very unique and different. (Also, I just found out that it’s the first book in a series, so I know what I’ll be reading soon!)

Sci-fi/dyst/post-apoc can really mess with your head. What books have you read recently that have completely taken you by surprise?
